Mali Attack Update: 18 Persons Dead, Hostages Freed As Hotel Siege Ends

Mali security forces, aided by U.S. and French special forces, ended a daylong siege Friday of Radisson Blu hotel after alleged Islamic extremists seized as many as 170 hostages. Mali's Security Minister Salif Traore has told a news conference that gunmen were no longer holding any hostages, the BBC reports. Al Jazeera said two gunmen were involved in the takeover and that both were shot and killed by security forces, while NDTV reported 18 persons. There were conflicting reports on the number of casualties from the attack. Traore earlier said three people were killed, but the AFP news agency, quoting local TV, said as many as 18 people died. Traore, said special forces had gone "floor by floor" to free the hostages, many of whom were barricaded in their rooms. We Didn't Receive $200million Fund From GEJ -Bank of Industry Denies

Following the call by veteran actor, Lari Williams for President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the $200million fund reportedly given to the entertainment industry by the Goodluck Jonathan administration, the Bank of Industry (BOI) has denied getting such fund. According to Nigeriafilms.com, the bank disclosed in a statement that Jonathan never gave them the said amount of money. The statement reads thus; “It is not managing any $200 million Entertainment/Nollywood Fund and at no time did the bank receive any such fund from the government for the Entertainment/Nollywood sector. “This publication became necessary as some practitioners in the creative industry believe that BOI is in receipt of $200 million Entertainment/Nollywood Fund. “Due to the commercial potentials of the entertainment industry in Nigeria, the bank has been making investments in the industry from its own resources since 2011.
