New Army Staff's Hometown Attacked By Boko Haram, Many Fear Dead

Nigeria - The dreaded Islamic Boko Haram sect has attacked Buratai village of Biu LGA, the home of the Chief of Army Staff, Major General T.Y. Buratai, killing many and destroying houses including that of a former Commissioner, Barrister Isa Buratai, DailyPost reports.

Buratai had during the weekend declared war on the Boko Haram sect, renaming the military operation in the northeast from Operation Zaman Lafiya to Lafiya Dole.

Audi Bukar, a local who narrowly escaped death said, he saw many dead bodies while escaping from the madness in Buratai town by the Boko Haram sects whose presence had been noticed earlier on.

“I cannot say how many were killed in the raid by Boko Haram because we left the town while they were still on it. I saw corpses and I saw the house of our former commissioner, Isa Buratai on fire. I don’t know about the people in the house, but about two corpses were seen along the way apart from many others that we saw.” He said.

Attempt to get through to the former Commissioner of Sports, Barrister Isa Buratai to speak on the incident failed as his numbers were switched off. However, a close associate of the Commissioner confirmed the incident.
