Residents of Bauchi state on Thursday took to the street in protest against the appointment of Alhaji Ahmed Suleiman, secretary to the state government as the new Emir of Misau.
LEADERSHIP reports that the angry residents invaded the palace in Misau town, destroyed properties and set vehicles ablaze. The new emir was humiliated by the protesters who almost beat him up as they rough-handled him, shouting that he could not occupy the post illegally.
Suleiman was announced yesterday by Governor Mohammed Abubakar as the new Emir of Misau after the death of the late Emir, Alhaji Muhammadu Manga III. He was appointed SSG on 3rd July, 2015 by the present administration of Abubakar.
The state government has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew to help calm tensions.
